This month I'm reading and talking about "On Kindness", by Adam Phillips and Barbara Taylor. Why this one? First of all, it's very short and easy to read. Secondly, it's needed. The first chapter argues that although study after study finds benefits in simple kindness, we tend to associate kindness with foolishness, naivety, or even unauthentic. We come to mistrust people's kindness, unless we know what they want in return.
We can't create a world where everyone is kind, patient, and positive. But we can reap the benefits of a kind life by choosing to treat ourselves and others kindly.
