September is National Recovery Month, where recovery is for everyone: every person, every family, every community. We are reminded that as we support people in recovery or as we are in recovery ourselves, recovery belongs to everyone. Recovery means something different to everyone and we all have our own recovery journey. As a mental health and substance abuse counselor, I understand that no one's journey to recovery is the same as anyone else's and I understand how difficult the process of change can be. Every little step in the right direction, regardless of the number of steps backwards or the time standing in on place, is one step towards recovery. And each of those steps deserves to be celebrated.
